Joe Nelson is a seasoned engineering professional with over a decade of expertise in fluid power systems, hydraulic system design, and engineering leadership. With a strong foundation in hydraulic testing, system design, and team leadership, Joe combines technical expertise with strategic vision to lead engineering initiatives that shape the future of fluid power innovation.

Since joining J.M. Grimstad, Joe has played an integral role in advancing the company’s capabilities. As the Fluid Power Engineering Manager, he leads and mentors a multidisciplinary team of engineers, ensuring the seamless design and implementation of fluid power and electrical systems. Joe’s contributions at J.M. Grimstad also include overseeing the design and production of hydraulic power units for Galland Henning balers, a critical application in the recycling and waste management industries. His hands-on approach and dedication to quality have been instrumental in creating robust
solutions that drive operational efficiency for clients. Joe began his career at the MSOE Fluid Power Institute as an Undergraduate Research Assistant, where he gained foundational experience in hydraulic component testing, data acquisition, and contamination control. He further developed his expertise at The Oilgear Company, specializing in axial piston pump performance and endurance testing, PLC integration, and contamination analysis. As a Hydraulic System Design Engineer at Titan Systems, Joe contributed to designing automated hydraulic component test stands, troubleshooting complex systems, and advancing instrumentation calibration techniques.

A graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Joe’s career reflects a strong commitment to advancing fluid power innovation and delivering reliable, high-performing solutions for industrial and mobile applications. His leadership has fostered a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement, empowering engineers to deliver efficient, reliable solutions that meet and exceed customer expectations.
